Lorde Reprise

WHAT WAS THAT in bold..

Chest pulses. Heart is in a bucket on the ground. Brain is peaceful and still, all at once. 1:59pm, timer pings. 2:00pm, sun hits my being as I collapse onto a hoodie that splays atop a grassy patch of a beachy-headland-hill. Headphones are in, eyes squeeze shut. All versions of Delaney past, breathe one single breath together.

baby WHAT WAS THAT?..

going back in time, little 10 year old Delaney has saved up her (debatably) hard earned schmeckles to buy herself an itty bitty pink iPod shuffle, WITH a touch screen. She's feeling pretty cool. She is gifted a whopping $20 gift voucher for her birthday, to spend on Apple music. She buys two albums - Bruno Mars 'Doo-Wops and Hooligans' and Lorde's 'The Love Club EP', and the single of 'Tennis Court'. Yuh. She learns every word to every Lorde song (or a word that sounds close enough) within the week.

Flash forward - a slightly older version of Delaney screams every lyric to every song of Melodrama album out of the card window, whilst driving back from the sunny coast with sister in the passenger seat. They proceeded to pull apart every feeling, word and experience that they could possibly relate to each song for the remainder of the drive.

A year or two ish down the track, Delaney takes up running in an effort to 'deal' or shove down unhappy emotions associated with silly decisions and a city-city move. 'Path' comes out, amongst 'Solar Power'. The album keeps her mentally alive, as her shitty sneakers hit the shitty ground of the shitty city she now lives in. She hates running, but it helped. Lorde helped.

now. present day.

all parts of me are dying, crying and internally summer-saulting, as we begin the final hours of countdown to Lorde's newest album 'Virgin'.

although the world is seemingly in pieces, this is one piece I refuse to let go of.
