To achieve an effortlessly, fashion-forward look.

Button-ups are one of my favourite staple pieces in a wardrobe. They’re comfortable—most of the time cotton—and can be dressed up or down for different occasions with ease. I love the versatility of a button-up and find myself wearing one at least twice a week.

Curious to know others’ thoughts on the matter, I asked you guys—

A recent Instagram poll I posted showed that 25% of you prefer wearing your button-ups tucked, while the other 75% opt for untucked. Other suggestions on how to style them included: Half-tucked, for a business-casual look.

Loved the clear preference for the untucked look! I also love a more casual button-up vibe, as it removes the sense of seriousness you’d otherwise get from business attire and adds an element of ‘whatever’—or better said, effortlessness.

I also reached out to a few lovely fashion girlies around the globe for their styling suggestions and favourite spots to buy button-ups.

Here is what they said:

"I like to style my buttons up in more of a casual way, by having them done up and untucked, styling with a skirt or pants like these inspo photos below! I love getting my shirts second hand, or stealing my husbands hahaha. Love a vintage shirt if I can find one, especially if it’s Ralph Lauren or Tommy Hilfiger"

"My favourite way to wear a button up is half tucked in and half hanging out! Gives the most elegant but relaxed look. I love to buy button ups from Zara and Supre and Glassons as they seem to have the best quality at the lowest price ✨👏🏼"

"I have some from Zara that are now my beach cover ups! I accidentally left them hanging near a window and they got discoloured in the sun so I’m repurposing them 😅😅

I like them because they are crisp!"

Likes to wear a button-up "tied in a knot to accentuate curves".

"Oversized and untucked! Whether it is with jeans or small skirt just peeking through the bottom - love a rolled up sleeve and as many buttons undone from the top as I can get away with! Super cute when you have an embellished or stand out lil bralette or something that can peep out too. Faves are from The Frankie Shop or Dazie the Lable via The Iconic."

I loved all the suggestions! I also saw the stylish @alanahchannon styling her button-ups by buttoning every second button from one side, leaving the shirt looking asymmetrical. I LOVED this—such a cool, modern way to wear a piece that’s often overlooked. You can check her reel out HERE to see the style. I’m obsessed with the inspiration this callout gave me and can’t wait to try more ways of styling my basic button-ups over the next month.

Thanks to all the fabulous chicks who shared their opinions on the matter!

Much love, as usual—happy styling.

With love,

xx
